January 29, 2025

200-Year Anniversary of Vicksburg Incorporation*

January 29, 2025 marks 200 years from the incorporation of the City of Vicksburg on January 29, 1825. We will celebrate this historic day with a series of events on Wednesday the 29th.

  • 2:00pm Mayor’s Proclamation & Dedication at Washington Park

  • 5:00pm Bicentennial Parade Starting at Convention Center South Lot

  • 6:30pm Bicentennial Banquet at the Convention Center

Music & Culture Festival*

The Fourth Annual April cultural celebration (formerly Arts & Music Festival) will showcase the local and regional music many Vicksburgers already know and love, but we’ll also highlight cultural aspects of the Delta that may be a little less familiar. Think: dancing, theater, demonstrations and more. The Festival will continue to partner with the Alcorn State University Jazz Festival, and we’ll add some special celebratory surprises!

July 4-6, 2025

Independence Weekend*

Vicksburg is already known for hosting the longest fireworks show in the State of Mississippi every year on the Fourth of July, but for our Bicentennial year we plan on making it bigger and better than ever!

October 4, 2025

Fall Family Fair*

We invite all current and past Vicksburgers to assemble in their beloved city for a Fall Fair and Vicksburg Homecoming! There will be games, music, and even some unexpected fun for the entire family, all generations and walks of life.

New Year’s Eve Celebration*

We are closing out Vicksburg Bicentennial year with a New Year’s Eve celebration that’s not to be missed. We will reminisce on what’s hopefully a memorable year for all while looking to the future to recognize What’s Next.

July 29, 2024

Bicentennial Kickoff Press Conference
9:00am at Washington Street Park
City and civic leaders and members of the media gathered for the announcement of five cornerstone bicentennial events, happening throughout 2025. Opening remarks and historical context were given by Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. Then, Visit Vicksburg’s Executive Director, Laura Beth Strickland, revealed the five pillar events of the 2025 bicentennial calendar.

Finally, the Vicksburg 200 Committee unveiled a public installation at Washington Street Park: the addition of “200” on the end of the existing “Vicksburg” sign letters.
